Asagi Maeda: “Lunch Specials”
Asagi Maeda is a passionate metalsmith, meticulously constructing miniature sculptures that are also jewelry. Fashioned from wood, plexi, resin, enamel, silver, gold, pearls, semiprecious and precious stones, the work is engraved and enameled by the artist with thoughtful narratives about family and society.
It was the artist’s wish to make her works more affordable and she thought of the popular Lunch Specials offered in various restaurants in Tokyo. Patrons can purchase an inexpensive meal, consisting of an appetizer, 2 courses, and dessert, for a fraction of the dinner price.
Maeda’s design for the “Lunch Specials” are all hand fabricated by the artist, displaying her metalsmith skills and each has its on story to tell.
