What appears to be an ordinary stone opens to reveal a magically colorful and patterned interior where personal treasures can be kept. Yoko Zeltserman-Miyaji has coated the exterior of this small, hand-carved, wooden container, with layers of hand mixed and pigmented, glossy black urushi with curving stripes of textured, iridescent black, impossible to capture in an image. Inside, the artist has applied urushi in stone blue, green and sand, before polishing it to a smooth finish and sealing with clear urushi.
