What appears to be an ordinary stone opens to reveal a magically colorful and patterned interior where personal treasures can be kept. Yoko Zeltserman-Miyaji has coated the exterior of this small, hand-carved, wooden container, with layers of hand mixed and pigmented, leather-like, mottled black and dusky teal urushi. Inside, the artist has applied urushi in green, red and black, before polishing it to a smooth finish, sealing with clear urushi, and adding small, textured red patches.
