JOYCE J SCOTT – STORY STOLE

Stolen Stories – Joyce J. Scott

Over 300 days in lock down, Art Lock down. I ensconced in my home/studios was not unaccustomed to solitary time…300 days becoming perpetual introspection and prolific creation. I and my trusty relentless television/radio, food delivery companies and drive by friends switched that possible loneliness to an expansive foray into introspection/global dismay with the ability rebelieve in the power of humans. As in BLM, the covid vaccine and the heroes who served the sick and well while sacrificing themselves.

An overarching dilemma for me during, even before the pandemic was the consistent, even ritualized assault of women, girls…Babies, no really girl babies. I consistently delved thru man’s impulse to destroy the woman who are your mothers, the vessel from which you came, daughter or sister. On and on the abuse of women, now heighten in this time of covid is proof of an actual women’s worth being considered as less. The death of  women is the death of the core of societies.

Watching everything on TV, movies, my stories (southern term for soap operas), even commercials are a sneaky indictment on women’s expendability. Stories Stolen speaks to the increase in assaults and deaths of women during covid. Cries unheard or concealed. Few jobs or doctors to run to for safety or solace. Alone, fearful, surrounded in a house of unschooled children and unpaid bills because the world feels the same sorrow. No way out.
