ELIZABETH MCDEVITT – WAVE BRACELET

$4,000.00

Nothing in our collective lifetimes has been more pervasively felt by the entire world than the COVID-19 pandemic. No continent has been spared, and essentially everyone has felt its destructive impact in some way, either by loss of health and financial well-being or sadly, loss of life.

One of the most fearsome effects of the pandemic is that it keeps coming in repetitive waves in spite of attempts to stop it. In response to this exhibition, Upended Lives: Jewelry in the Age of Covid, I have created a fine silver cuff bracelet depicting ocean waves breaking as they approach shore. Inspired by close study of water patterning in the formation and breaking of waves, as well as my love of the ocean, I used the techniques of chasing and repousse to move the metal in a fluid manner. Relatively smooth until they break, the water churns into a sparkling foam in a repetitive pattern that is powerful and potentially destructive.
