“Personal adornment has been expressed throughout time using whatever materials were on hand. The need to accent the body, to stand out, to make a statement and communicate through personal adornment has been a human need for millennia. In this work of art Jim captures aspects from the earliest jewelry made of shell and bone, to the latest technology, the 3D printer and laser cutter. All these elements come together in the composition of the brooch.
The radial, flower pattern is inspired by the bracelet worn by the winged guardian figures found in ancient Assyrian relief sculptures. This jewelry appears over and over in Assyrian carvings of these powerful figures. The animal bone harkens back to the earliest materials humans manipulated, while the laser cutter and 3D printer reference the contemporary tools and processes which jewelry has embraced.” – Jim Bove
